The Flower

The flower lay wilting on a road known by few,
And none, but just one person about the flower knew.
He lived upon a hilltop, and looking down each day
He’d ask God for a raindrop to fall upon the way.
To fall upon the flower that grew along the road,
He’d ask God for one raindrop, to lift the heavy load.
He’d take a walk most everyday to look upon the flower
And would ask God for one raindrop hour after hour!
Well the raindrop never came, and so the flower it did die,
And the man who lived upon the hilltop asked the question, “Why?”
Came the answer so true and plain that it made the old man think,
“Not once did you attempt to give that flower one small drink!”
