Eradicating Doubt

Doubt_01Doubt is the antithesis of faith. To doubt is to be uncertain about, consider questionable or unlikely, hesitate to believe, to distrust. It is to be undecided in opinion or belief. It is a feeling of uncertainty about the truth, reality or nature of something (Dictionary.com). Doubt trumps faith every single time.

Is it any wonder when James instructed us to make our requests of God in faith, that he said, “But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways” (James 1:6-7)?

Though we all struggle with doubts from time to time, we must see the danger in letting those doubts linger. When fears and doubts arise, we must strive to eradicate them, particularly when they have to do with God.

In prayer, if we doubt God, we shall not receive the answer to our prayers. Honestly, how often do we inject doubt into our prayers? Perhaps a better way to ask would be, “How often are our prayers offered with absolute faith?” You see we are told to pray “with no doubting” (James 1:6). Just a little doubt and our prayers are hindered.

This can be illustrated in many aspects of our lives. If we doubt the word of God—the truth—on any level, our faith is impacted! Doubt is that dangerous!

So, how do we eradicate doubt? Put simply, we must increase our faith! The only way I know to increase faith is to spend time in God’s word. “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God” (Rom. 10:17). The more we feed our faith, the less we will doubt!

Doubt is a choice, much like faith. Choose faith! Trust God! He will not let you down (read Prov. 3:5-6)!
