The other day while my wife was vacuuming in the living room, our 5 year old daughter came up and began talking to her. Poor little Clarissa had to speak quite loudly to make herself heard over the vacuum cleaner. My wife was hard at work and didn’t really feel like being disturbed...she was in a hurry to get the work done. But Clarissa, determined to be heard, continued shouting and trying to get her mother’s attention. Mom nodded in agreement here and there, but never really heard what Clarissa was saying. Finally, Clarissa gave up, threw her hands in the air, and left. 

Do you ever feel like Clarissa, like you are being ignored, or just not getting the attention you desire? Do you feel like every one you know and love is just overlooking you? Or maybe they give you the proverbial “pat on the head” and “go play with your little friends now” treatment. It makes you feel awful, angry, and rejected. And it may even make you want to get revenge on them for not respecting you. But we treat God like that sometimes too, don’t we? God sends us messages over and over. Jesus, as the Scripture says, stands knocking at the door (Revelation 3:20), but we can’t hear because we’re too busy scurrying about our own little lives. But Jesus keeps knocking....

“I am the Lord, and there is none else. I have not spoken in secret, in some dark land; I did not say to the offspring of Jacob, ‘Seek Me in a waste place’; I, the Lord, speak righteousness, declaring things that are upright” (Isaiah 45:19).

“’For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart’” (Jeremiah 29:11-13).

“The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).

There is going to come a time when Jesus will stop knocking, when the door to salvation will be closed, and each person will be called to give an account to the Lord. Seek the Lord while He may be found. He’s knocking now...do you hear it? Go answer the door....
