Suggestions for Unity

Many ideas have been advanced as to how to attain unity. Of course, most are aware of God’s word in reference to this subject. We recite our favorite passages, and this is well and good, as long as they are properly applied. One of the over-powering arguments for unity is the prayer of our Lord in Gethsemane (John 17). Jesus prayed for His disciples “that they may all be one … that the world may believe that Thou has sent Me” (verse 21). Here are three suggestions for all Christians.
- Coming together is a beginning. There is no way for us to go our separate ways and be united. We need to keep that in mind concerning the assembling on each Lord’s Day.
- Keeping together is progress. Often, when people come together, they make a beginning. However, as time continues, they fail to stay together.
- Working together is success. Saints that come together, stay together, and work together are well-pleasing in the sight of God. As Paul admonished the church at Corinth, “that ye all speak the same thing, that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment” (1 Corinthians 1:10).
Let's all work for unity.
