Truly Important?

Image of sign reading "changed priorities ahead"In times like these it is easy to get our priorities out of order. Often we find ourselves facing too many choices, especially in the realm of how we choose to use our time. The variety of entertainment (some good, most bad) is unbelievable. One of the greatest problems faced today is the overindulgence in entertainment.

In ages gone by, there were not quite as many choices. A religious meeting in town was often the thing to do. I have read of times past, where entire towns poured into church houses for religious debates, discussions, Bible studies, and so forth. Today, folks pour into bars, clubs, movie houses and other secular places. Priorities have certainly shifted-much to our detriment!

Consider the society we live in: morals plummeting, prayer banned from public  school, deviant lifestyles accepted and embraced, parents killing children (abortion), children killing parents, children killing children. It is critical that we realize what is truly important in life.

The Lord says, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). "These things" refers to food and clothing-the two most basic essentials of life. Notice what our first priority should be-God and His righteousness!

Colossians 2:1-4 reads, "If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God." Indeed, our priorities should always be directed toward spiritual matters.

When faced with the choice between sitting at home and watching television or studying God's word with those of like precious faith-let us always choose God! When faced with the choice between things of this world and things of God-let us always choose the things of God.

Life is short! Eternity is never ending! Let our actions answer the question: "what is truly important?" Redeem the time for the days are short (Ephesians 5:15-16; 1 Corinthians 7:29)!
